As the first term at St. Gregory's College Senior Years Boarding drew to a close, it's time to reflect on the accomplishments, events, and growth that took place during this vibrant term. From the warm welcome of returning and new students to engaging activities, academic pursuits, and sporting triumphs, Term 1 set a strong foundation for a successful academic year. Let's delve into the highlights and notable moments that shaped the term.

A Vibrant Start:

With enthusiasm and excitement, students returned to St. Gregory's College on January 31st, kickstarting the term on a high note. The first day witnessed the arrival of a large number of students, both familiar faces and newcomers, all eager to embark on their educational journey. During the initial college assembly, Mr. Matthew Brennan, the College Principal, emphasized the importance of focusing on academics, behavior, and culture for a well-rounded educational experience.

Building Connections:

In the spirit of fostering camaraderie, the first weekend saw the boys heading to Gunnamatta Bay in Cronulla for a memorable day of swimming and bonding. This outing provided an excellent opportunity for students to get to know each other, strengthening the sense of community within the College. Additionally, the Vertical Teams competition commenced, where all six teams engaged in friendly games, further encouraging interaction and teamwork among the students.

Nurturing Spirituality:

Throughout the term, Thursday morning singing practice and Sunday Mass served as recurring highlights, with the boys exhibiting exceptional musical talents and growing in reverence each passing week. These spiritual gatherings not only allowed students to express themselves but also fostered a sense of mindfulness and reflection.

Academic Endeavors: Term 1 was a busy period of assessments, with students diligently working to complete tasks, meet classroom expectations, and set high standards for themselves. The dedication and commitment displayed by the students exemplified their eagerness to excel academically.

Sports Triumphs:

The swimming carnival, held at the College, was another significant event that showcased students' talents and determination, with numerous participants excelling and progressing to the next level of the competition. On Saturdays, the boys in Boarding actively participated in basketball and cricket matches, demonstrating their sporting prowess and passion. A special mention goes to the ISA 1st Grade team, whose victory in a highly competitive match brought glory to St. Gregory's College. Rugby Union training and games also commenced towards the end of the term, with the boys preparing for an exciting season ahead. The mantra of "team first" has been instilled in the boys, promoting teamwork and instilling a deeper appreciation for collective effort.

Empowering Resilience:

Ensuring the holistic development of students, We arranged the Drug and Alcohol Information and Resilience Skills (DAIR) program for all Year 10 and Year 12 Boarding students. This initiative, facilitated by youth solutions, aimed to enhance students' understanding of alcohol and other drugs, mental health, and strategies for seeking help and support. The program focused on building resilience and equipping students with skills to assess safety and risk, implement harm reduction strategies, and access support services.

Looking Ahead:

As Term 1 drew to a close, the College expressed gratitude for the support received throughout the term, extending appreciation to parents, staff, and students. With Family Weekend on the horizon, it provided an opportunity to reunite and celebrate the achievements of the term collectively.
